Alpyn Beauty Natural Skincare Review [Plant-Based & Sustainable!]

Alpyn Beauty Natural Skincare Review [Plant-Based & Sustainable!]

It’s no secret that I have the pleasure of testing out a LOT of different skincare brands; there are soooooo many in clean beauty these days! But every now and then, I come across one that just seems extra special. You may or may not have heard of Alpyn Beauty before, so today I’m going to share more about the brand and their products with you!

Some products were gifted to me for PR consideration with no obligation to share. This post contains affiliate links and reflects my honest thoughts, as always!

About the Brand: Alpyn Beauty

Alpyn was founded by Kendra Kolb Butler in 2015 and is based in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. You pronounce it like “all-pen” and they took inspiration from the region’s renowned alpenglow: the ethereal pink light cast at sunrise and sunset which illuminates the mountaintops, meadows, forests, and valleys where the ingredients for their products grow 🏔

Some quick info about Alpyn for ya:
  • Vegan, cruelty free, gluten free, and Leaping Bunny Certified
  • 1% for the Planet member
  • Formulas are non-comedogenic and contain no added synthetic fragrances
  • Use some certified organic ingredients and others are wildcrafted (meaning they’re sustainably sourced and harvested near their headquarters!)
  • Packaged in recyclable glass and FSC-certified paper boxes (with vegetable-based inks)
  • Prices for each product are all between $28-62 which is quite reasonable compared to some other organic skincare brands, especially considering the quality and sourcing

Also, Alpyn incorporates a lot of gentle plant-based alternatives to retinol such as bakuchiol and rambutan. So you can get the benefits such as youthful skin and diminished fine lines/wrinkles but without the harsh side effects of a retinol.

Overall, I appreciate that Alpyn is transparent and conscious about ingredients and sourcing!

Alpyn Products I’ve Tried & My Thoughts!

Over the years, I’ve gotten to try all of Alpyn’s products except for the Creamy Bubbling Cleanser; that’s still on my list to try. Some did not work for me, but for the most part, they have an AWESOME skincare line, and I really think they’re worth checking out. Here are my thoughts on each product:

Bearberry & Vitamin C Glow Serum (Becca’s fave!)

Alpyn Bearberry Vitamin C Glow SerumThis one is my fave Alpyn product! I first used it years ago (when it was called the PlantGenius Survival Serum) but it still makes its way back into my routine because it’s just SO good. It’s a multitasking serum that also doubles as an illuminating primer because it has responsibly-sourced mica in it for a little shimmer. It has a light, fresh scent and a silky texture that sinks into skin immediately (no pilling!).

Alpyn Bearberry & Vitamin C Glow Serum

The serum has a pump dispenser and it’s packed with Vitamin C, bearberry, hyaluronic acid, squalane, and bakuchiol. The primary purpose of the formula is to brighten and address signs of aging; I do feel like this serum makes my skin look vibrant, toned, and plump. My pores seem less obvious too! ✨

Of all the “retinol dupes” I’ve tried, I have personally seen the best results from this one! Highly recommend.

Juneberry & Collagen Hydrating Cream Cleanser (new!)

Move over, Pond’s cold cream! This is a cleaner swap for the cult classic cream cleanser. In all honesty, I was skeptical of this! A lot of cream cleansers I’ve used in the past just never seemed to *actually* cleanse that well or would feel like they left a filmy residue on my skin.

But whoa, I am pleasantly surprised with this one! You apply it to wet or dry skin (I’ve been applying it to dry skin, even with makeup on!), massage it, and then rinse. It emulsifies with water and rinses clean. You can also wipe with a cloth but I don’t totally find that necessary.

Juneberry & Collagen Hydrating Cream Cleanser

It truly feels cool to the touch (it has menthol and eucalyptus in it!) and refreshing on skin. It also has tiny jojoba beads in it for a mild scrub. I’m really amazed at how soft my skin feels after cleansing with this and not stripped dry at all. The cleanser contains bakuchiol, collagen, and wild juneberry and is ideal for hydrating, reviving dullness, fighting blemishes, and softening skin. The scent is very minimal; maybe a bit minty and fresh but hardly noticeable at all!

Since it does have menthol and eucalyptus, it can feel effervescent if you get too much in your eyes. I don’t find that it stings or hurts, but it can make my eyes water a tiny bit if I get too much of the cleanser in my eyes.

Ultimately, I’m a die-hard oil cleansing gal and still feel like those cleanse more effectively, but I DO like this cream cleanser and think it works well! And the concept is super cool.

PlantGenius Calming Midnight Mask

This one was discontinued but I did not care for it! It was a glassy overnight mask that was meant to recharge, reset, and repair skin overnight. Unfortunately, my skin had a bad reaction to this one and became red, itchy, and bumpy so I stopped using it.

PlantGenius Line-Filling Eye Balm

Alpyn Beauty PlantGenius Line Filling Eye Balm

I can’t resist a good eye balm! This one applies like a cream but behaves more like a balm. It almost has a tacky consistency, but not in a bad way because it has a firming effect. It soaks in nicely and does not feel greasy or oily at all.

The balm is formulated with bakuchiol, caffeine, hyaluronic acid, eyebright, bearberry, and Vitamin C. It even has some mica for extra glowiness. It’s meant to help with fine lines, puffiness, and dark circles. I don’t personally deal with dark circles so I can’t speak to that, but I do feel like it helps moisturize the skin around my eyes, smooth out lines, and make me look more awake in the morning!

It’s kinda pricey, but you only need a tiny dab each time you use it. I like it a lot! 👀

PlantGenius Melt Moisturizer

This is one of Alpyn’s best sellers! It’s a rich water-based cream with a velvety texture. I love that it has a matte finish and truly melts right into skin. The smell is similar to the Glow serum…light and fresh!

I’m typically one to use facial oils as my moisturizer, but this one does make my skin feel hydrated and moisturized. Not as well as an oil, but it still does a good job. It also works well underneath an oil if you want to layer them; I don’t notice any pilling at all. It uses bakuchiol, hyaluronic acid, squalane, and ceramides.

Overall, this cream is very nice and my skin likes it! I think it would be good if you’re looking for a lightweight (but nourishing) moisturizer and mostly targeting fine lines.

Alpyn Melt Moisturizer vs. Bounce Cream Comparison

Triple Vitamin C Brightening Bounce Cream

Alpyn’s other moisturizer…I love this one and personally prefer it over Melt! It’s called a “bounce cream” because it literally has a jelly trampoline-like texture when you poke it! So fun. Umm and helloooo, it’s pink 😍

How does it differ from Melt? Bounce is aloe-based (organic!) and has more of a whipped texture. It feels lighter and more absorptive than Melt and the finish is a tad more luminous, too. It smells a little stronger and more fruity/tart. Also, Bounce has three forms of Vitamin C in it so it’s a powerful brightener!

It also contains wild chokeberry, jojoba oil, hemp seed oil, and bearberry. I’d say Bounce is better for dullness and skin that lacks hydration. It definitely makes my skin look radiant, feel plump, and helps with elasticity. But if you’re dealing with dryness or fine lines and want something richer, then I would suggest Melt. (Melt would probably be better for sensitive skin types since Vitamin C can be irritating for some people, FYI)

Wild Huckleberry 8-Acid Polishing Peel

This one is POWERFUL so I would only use it sparingly (no more than once a week but I would even recommend bi-weekly)! It might be too potent if you have extremely sensitive skin. It offers both chemical and mechanical exfoliation; bamboo powder and berry seed paste give a gentle polish effect and eight natural acids (including white willow bark which is considered nature’s salicylic acid) help exfoliate skin. And Alpyn uses wild-harvested huckleberry which protects against free-radical damage and brightens.

You apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin and let it works its magic for about five minutes or less. I expected it to feel tingly or harsh, but it actually has a cooling sensation on my skin. It doesn’t really get dry or tight when you wear it either.

Then you can just rinse it off or splash with water and gently massage skin before completely removing it. The little scrubbies feel so cool! Heads up, it will likely leave your skin red for a bit! For me, the redness lasts about 15 minutes and then subsides. But I never experience any feelings of intense heat or flushing.

But I gotta say, the texture is UNREAL! It looks like a fluffy, whipped yogurt and even smells like berry yogurt. Mmmm! And it leaves my skin soooooooo satiny smooth. I wish it were slightly less potent so I could use it more often but I’m not sure my skin could handle that!

Wild Nettle & Niacinamide Firming Serum

Alpyn Wild Nettle Firming Serum

Alpyn’s other serum option! I like that it has a dropper to dispense the product. The main purpose of this one is to assist with firming and tone skin. It’s made with rambutan, niacinamide, wild nettle, squalane, hyaluronic acid, and bearberry. Like most of Alpyn’s products, the scent is mild.

I happily finished a bottle of this and thought it was great! It truly does have a firming effect as the name suggests. It makes my skin feel hydrated and acts as a nice base for a moisturizer or other skincare products, without bunching up. I even feel like it’s helpful for controlling oil production, especially since I have combination-type skin.

This has more of a cool gel texture compared to the Glow serum which is softer to the touch (and they have slightly different purposes). Of the two, I prefer the Glow serum, but this one is still a force to be reckoned with!

Willow & Sweet Agave Lip Plumping Mask

You may have seen this bad boy go viral on TikTok 👄 It’s a lip treatment that you can just apply like a lip balm or leave on overnight as a mask. It has a slightly waxy consistency so you might need to warm it up for a second between your fingertips before applying on lips. But the finish is not really sticky or anything. The smell isn’t strong but it has a minor castor oil scent with some hints of berry!

Willow & Sweet Agave Lip Plumping Mask

It’s made with sweet blue agave leaf and hyaluronic acid (for hydration), white willow bark (to exfoliate), and wild chokeberry (for antioxidant protection).

I’ll be honest that I don’t notice any intense plumping with this one, maybe a faint tingle. BUT it definitely makes my lips feel SO smooth, soft, and supple. Like, when I wear it I can’t stop rubbing my lips together because they feel so good! It’s great for when my lips are chapped or rough. I also find that it sits nicely underneath lipstick and makes for a better application!
