WTF Is Oil Pulling?! How to Get Healthier Gums and Whiten Your Teeth

Photo credit: Veganbaking.net via Visualhunt / CC BY-SA

It all started when my gums would bleed whenever I flossed. I started to think it was normal. Until I went for my cleaning at the dentist and found out I was in between the stages of gingivitis and periodontitis. OMG. I wanted to cry. My gums were inflamed and unhealthy. I had always been good about flossing and brushing so why would this happen to me?

There are many reasons this could happen to your gums: genetics, bad diet, bad dental hygiene, hormonal imbalance, etc. All I knew was that something had to change.

18 Toxic Ingredients to Avoid in Your Products

All this talk about the #CleanBeautyRevolution and toxic chemicals in your products. But how do you know what ingredients are toxic and how do you make better choices and find alternatives? I’m here to help!

I posted this to my Instagram a few months ago. But I wanted to bring it up again for the purpose of this blog!

::Repost:: Gonna preach for a minute 👋 Over the past two years I have been slowly ditching and replacing all of my beauty, personal hygiene, and household products with safer, organic, and non-toxic alternatives. It is scary how many chemicals and dangerous toxins companies put into these products just to make them cheaper and hope the consumer doesn't know what the effect is to their health. Just think, your skin is your largest organ and absorbs everything you put on it. In Europe, over 1,300 ingredients used in cosmetics have been banned by the European Union, while in the United States, the Food & Drug Administration has banned just 10 ingredients to date. I am happy to be part of the #CleanBeautyRevolution by @aunaturalelife and have signed the petition to get Congress moving and help us have higher standards for cosmetics. I encourage you to get informed and pay more attention to what you're putting on and in your body. It's worth it. This is going to be a huge focus for this blog. I really want people to be aware of what ingredients are in their cosmetics and why the majority of generic cosmetics are toxic. 😲

Manuka Honey Face Mask for Glowing Skin

I’m deathly afraid of bees. 🐝
But I love honey. 🍯

You win some, you lose some.

So what’s the buzz (had to do it) about manuka honey and why would you put it on your face?!?

Manuka honey comes from the Australia/New Zealand area from the nectar of a manuka tree. It doesn’t taste that great like typical honey, but it has some pretty amazing benefits for your skin.

Recipe: Cold Brew Coffee

Summer may be winding down, but there is still time to enjoy some cold brew coffee! It’s different than iced coffee, btw! Instead of just pouring hot coffee over ice, you let the coffee grinds (grounds..? I don’t know) sit in water at room temperature for 12-18 hours. You don’t need any fancy equipment or espresso machines, either! Plus it’s less acidic than regular coffee (your teeth and stomach will thank you). ☕

So Why Organic?

You see an organic apple and a conventional apple in the store and they look the exact same, only the organic one is more expensive. I can see why you’d buy the conventional one. But let me give you some info! 🍏

The literal definition of organic is “of, relating to, or obtained from living things” but what the heck does that mean and why does it make it better? When it comes to food, organic is the way to go. According to www.organic.org,

Simply stated, organic produce and other ingredients are grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms, or ionizing radiation. Animals that produce meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products do not take antibiotics or growth hormones.

That sounds nice, doesn’t it? But you might still be wondering why any of those things mentioned above are even bad to begin with.
