There are a lot of values I look for when discovering new brands. Are their ingredients safe and non-toxic? Do they use eco-friendly packaging? Are they working towards a greater good vs. just trying to make profits? It’s super rare that a brand checks ALL of my boxes. Today I am extremely happy to share one that meets them all: Plaine Products.
This post is sponsored by Plaine who generously sent me their products in exchange for an honest review. This post also contains affiliate links. Thank you for reading and supporting my little blog!
Plaine Products was founded by two sisters, Lindsey and Alison Delaplaine, and it began with a dream to have less plastic in the world. After looking around their bathrooms and realizing how much plastic they owned, the sisters started thinking about how to change that and how to make it easy for others to do the same.
(I actually know Lindsey and Ali personally and can confirm that they are so nice and genuine. This truly is a remarkable brand that has customers’ bests interests at heart!)
Plaine makes a variety of natural products for hair, face, and body. Including shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, body wash, hand wash, face wash, moisturizer, and hair treatment/styling products. I have been a loyal customer of theirs since 2018 and think you’ll enjoy ’em too!

You guys may know how picky I am when it comes to ingredients. All of Plaine’s products are made with non-GMO ingredients that are biodegradable, palm oil-free, and don’t use any parabens, sulfates, or synthetic fragrances. #OrganicallyBeccaApproved 😎
(in full transparency, the only one I DON’T love the ingredients for is the Styling Gel which contains two that I try to avoid if possible: phenoxyethanol and polysorbate 80)
Not only that, but they take sustainability seriously! The bottles are recyclable aluminum and they have a refill model (which we’ll cover next) ♻️
But, they truly go above and beyond to make high-quality products for our skin but also for the environment. Plaine is transparent and always looking for ways to improve, too. You can check out their annual Sustainability Reports for more nitty-gritty details.
How It Works: Refillable Bottles!
To make them even MORE special, Plaine uses a refill system! 🌎 Your first order will include the bottles and BPA-free pumps (you can also opt out of pumps altogether). You can recycle the shipping box and the metal caps.
When you’re getting low, you can order a refill bottle or subscribe and a bottle will automatically be sent. Just rinse out your empty bottle and switch the pump to your new bottle. They’ll provide a return label and you send it all back in the return box (yes, they even cover the cost of return shipping!) 📦
Plaine has a commercial bottle washer where they thoroughly clean and sanitize the bottles in between uses.
Which Plaine Products I Use & Love
Shampoo
Color safe, sulfate free, silicone free, suitable for all hair types
This has been my go-to shampoo for years and it’s what I’ve used the most consistently. There’s so much to like and it’s definitely a fave of mine! Plaine uses organic aloe as the first ingredient (instead of water) and a little goes a long way. And to make your bottle last even longer, you can add some water to the bottle when you’re getting low!
If you’ve never used a natural shampoo before, there might be a learning curve for you or a transition phase while your hair adjusts. I suggest getting your hair fully wet and THEN applying the shampoo so you can get a strong lather. Or leave the shampoo on your hair for a few minutes before rinsing it out. But I have super thick hair, and this shampoo gets it completely clean 🫧
Plaine has three scent options for the shampoo: Rosemary Mint Vanilla (love this one!), Citrus Lavender, and Unscented. In my opinion, there’s not a huge difference between the formulas other than the essential oils used.
Honestly, it makes my hair feel SO clean but doesn’t dry it out. I’ve definitely tried natural shampoos that left my hair feeling heavy and slightly greasy. So I appreciate that these are sustainably packaged, have clean ingredients, AND perform!
Pro tip: You can even use this shampoo to wash your dog 🐶

Hand Wash
The hand wash bottle will surely last you a long time since it’s so big! It dispenses as a gel but lathers once you add water. The foam is not really that intense, but it does make my hands feel clean without making them feel overly dry or stripped of moisture.
My favorite hand soap scent of theirs is the Cherry Almond! 🍒 I like that it doesn’t smell fake or overpowering but it’s still noticeable and pleasant. But you can get the hand soap in some other fun scents such as Sweet Orange Patchouli.
Similar to the shampoo, you can dilute these with water when you’re getting low to extend the life of it!
Body Wash
The body wash consistency is similar to the shampoo. It’s gentle but makes me feel clean; it lathers decently but you can achieve more suds if you use a loofah or washcloth. What’s cool is you can pour the body wash into a tub to use as a bubble bath! 🛀
Additionally, the body wash works great as a shaving gel! 🪒 It’s not oily so it won’t clog up the razor and the slick texture ensures a close shave (even with a safety razor). Who doesn’t love multi-functional products?!
Hair & Body Wash
This 2-in-1 combo of shampoo and body wash is genius! My husband likes this one because you can use one product for your entire body (which I’m sure most dudes would agree with!). It’s a great way to simplify your routine and use fewer products.
The Sage scent smells wonderful! In a weird way, it reminds me of fruit loops cereal, but I enjoy it.
I ultimately still prefer the original shampoo for using on my hair because it’s more clarifying. This 2-in-1 combo is a bit more moisturizing in comparison so I don’t feel like it cleanses my thick hair as well, but still works!
Face Wash
I typically use oil cleansers, but this one is nice and I like bringing it with me when traveling. It’s a gel that produces suds once you splash with water. It effectively removes makeup and leaves skin feeling fresh! The face wash also has Vitamin C in it which can help brighten skin and lighten pigmentation. This is another one that my husband enjoys too! Plus, it’s only $15 which is more affordable compared to a lot of natural cleansers.
I have tried a couple of Plaine’s other products, but those are my top picks from the line!
Psst…you can also buy Plaine Products at my favorite low-waste market, Earth Hero 🌎
